LocalSend is rather useful at times, when trying to send files from MacOS to Windows (It has a windows client as well) .. Only issue I found, the “Auto-Find” it doesn’t work well when devices are on separate vLANs even if those vLANs are open to each other. But manually entering the other devices local IP works still.

Hazel, My Sudo, Shortery.
Hazel automates file management. It can tag, move, rename, etc. files based on your criteria. Hazel makes it easy to use and maintain good folder hierarchy.
e.g. I use Hazel to keep my Desktop relatively clutter free. If I tag a file, Hazel will move it to its respective folder. (I can also add a “DoNotMove” tag if I don’t want Hazel to move the file).
Files on my Desktop that remain untagged after a specified time (3 days) are moved inside a folder on my Desktop. After 5 days in that folder, untagged files are tagged by type (e.g. images and screenshots) and moved to respective overflow folders.
Hazel by Noodelsoft
My SudoLet’s you create an online Pseudonym/identity, i.e. new phone number, email, with additional features for $1/month. With an iOS app. It’s great for when you need to give out a telephone number to a business or entity, but don’t want to give them your personal number in case they sell your info. [Google Voice is a good free option, but some online sites block Google Voice numbers]. It’s also easier to use, and expandable.
ShorteryShortery adds some missing triggers and functionality to the native MacOS app, Shortcuts. It allows you to trigger Shortcuts when you open or close an application, sleep or wake the computer, log in or out of the computer, etc.
Shortery is available on the Apple App Store.
Trigger types include:
• Appearance • Application • Audio • Calendar Events • Camera • Devices • Focus Mode • Folder Contents • Keyboard • Login & Logout • Monitor • Power Status • Screen Lock & Unlock • Sunrise & Sunset Time • Wake Up & Sleep • WiFi
Example uses:
YouTube has no adds when you set your VPN to a certain European country that borders on the Adriatic. So I created a YouTube web app via Safari. I then created two Shortcuts, triggered by Shortery. One turns my VPN on when I launch the YouTube web app., the other turns the VPN off when I quit the YouTube web app.
When I open/quit Lightroom or Photoshop, I turn off/on my monitor’s True Tone settings, so I’m always working with the exact same color profile.
I use shorter to mount and unmount an external NVME drive whenever I log in or out, or wake/sleep.

If you’re using a Logitech MX Master 3 or 3S mouse and want to customize it without the heavy Logi Options+, here’s a simple solution: Linear Mouse and Mos. Both are lightweight and open source. Mos is optional, but I strongly recommend it.
()
Linear Mouse https://linearmouse.app/
Download and install Linear Mouse.
Customize your thumb button (e.g., Mission Control).
Change scrolling direction if needed (works on just the USB mouse, not the trackpad).
Linear Mouse uses 60MB of RAM.
()
Download and install Mos for smooth scrolling in every app.
Great for high-refresh-rate external screens.
Mos uses 29MB of RAM.
Don’t bother with Logi Options unless you actually need any of the “Flow” stuff or advanced options.

iPodAddict181•3mo ago
Also shoutout to, rock solid, super customizable, and has never “gotten in the way” like Logi Options.

Three great free security tools every Mac should have are …
LuLu, KnockKnock, and BlockBlock are powerful, free security tools for macOS developed by Objective-See to enhance system protection and integrity. LuLu acts as an outbound firewall, vigilantly monitoring and blocking unauthorized network connections to safeguard your privacy and prevent data exfiltration. KnockKnock offers a comprehensive scan of your Mac, identifying all persistent software to detect potential malware and ensure only trusted applications run on your system. BlockBlock provides real-time monitoring of persistent software installation attempts, alerting you immediately to any unauthorized changes, thereby preventing malicious software from gaining a foothold.

: a ton of customization for your mouse, especially one - the only reason I bought it: enable “click-through” to activate and enable windows in one click. It was driving me crazy to the point of seriously ditching MacOs and going back to Win/Linux. Now my mind is at peace ☺️ BTW it’s a one time purchase of around 6€, no subscription bullshit.

You can checkout, a Dock replacement that adds a lot of nice features. Especially if you are coming from Windows you might find it more convenient than the standard Dock.
But I might be biased since I‘m the author :)

If I could, please allow me to plug my own app…I believe it definitely fits within the definition of “unique” Mac apps, though explainging what it does can be a bit challenging…
It is an app that explores the boundary of mathematics and art - with a very hands-on / interactive approach. It is very similar to an audio synthesizer type of app, except instead of creating sound, it creates visuals.
You can think of it as a screensaver (it can be displayed in fullscreen) - though because of app store limitations, is not an actual screensaver (well, also because it is fully interactive).
It does not react to audio directly but can by synchronized to tempo - i.e., just tap along to any music playing and the visuals are automatically synchronized to the BPM you tap.
Here are some real-time performance examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFvDZzRf3Rs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wfm_jgBL7Lg
And some example images:
[Rose petal] ()
There is also a version that runs on Apple TV - so you can share you creations and enjoy in the comfort of your living room TV.
iOS version is coming very soon (like this week-ish).

This is a plug for my own app 😅
I made an app primarily to help me browse content I have saved from the web (or scanned) into folders over time. Naturally, I also added the ability to save images and simple html5 videos directly from web links for convenience. Plus I added a share extension to save content from Safari (this is useful if you need to be logged in to save said content – e.g. an IG post). Finally, I added iCloud support to sync across my devices. The sync feature lets you enable or disable sync on specific folders in your library (just a folder in your Pictures folder) too which makes it flexible.
It’s a paid app (one time, no subscription). I was going to make it free but I’m a solo indie dev currently in-between jobs so I need the coffee money.
App Store Link:
, I mostly use the default Apple apps. The one 3rd party app I’ve used consistently for years (as a good enough replacement for Photoshop) is.
As for apps that I like and use Pixelmator Pro
I also usefor making icon sets for my Xcode projects.

I’m pretty sure that no one is talking about MakeItHome:(in the README there is also the link to the App Store).
https://github.com/Geckos-Ink/MakeItHome
It’s a no sense how it’s extra-ordinary. Anyway, the features have limitation, in design or functionality, in fact was studied to be an UI extender with support to external extensions. It’s a work in progress, and the latest version is currently in review on the App Store. I appreciate very much bug reporting and features ideas.
